The Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP) plays a crucial role in promoting mutual understanding among the people and countries of Asia and Europe. It adds the complement of parliamentary diplomacy to an ASEM process otherwise dominated by intergovernmental meetings. It meets every two years. Having as one of its objectives to influence the agenda of the ASEM Leaders, it usually convenes in the place where the Summit is hosted and shortly before it.
Former ASEP meetings were held in a good and constructive spirit and always had an impressive turnout. In Brussels, in the context of ASEM 8, ASEP will convene for the 6th time. It has chosen for a date in advance of the Summit to allow its recommendations to be fed into Summit proceedings. It promises to uphold the level of participation of former meetings.
ASEP 6 is organized and coordinated by the services of the Belgian Federal Parliament (Chamber of Representatives and Senate).
Members of Parliament, by invitation only
Update 6 May 2010 : Given the dissolution of the Belgian federal Parliament and the holding of early legislative elections in Belgium, the sixth Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP 6) has to be postponed. It will not be held on 30-31 May and 1 June 2010. Instead, the Belgian federal Parliament will organize ASEP 6 in Brussels on 26-28 September 2010. All delegations, guests and partners will be notified individually soon.
